How To Get Free Akismet API Key and Activate On WordPress Blog
Akismet is a popular and powerful WordPress plugin that aids to prevent web spam by blocking the comments and trackback pings automatically. It was developed by Automattic. Akismet is said to have captured over 25 billion spam comments and pings as of April 2011. Akismet plugin is pre-installed in all WordPress platform blogs by default. The administrator should enter the Akismet API key to activate and use the service. Here is the detailed guide to get free Akismet API Key.
How To Get Free Akismet API Key:
1) Go to Akismet signup page and choose ‘Personal plan’.
2) Click on ‘Sign up with WordPress.com’.
3) A Sign up page will appear. If you already have account in WordPress.com then click on ‘I already have a WordPress.com account!’ or create a new account by entering your email, username and password of your choice and hit Sign up.
4) Simply click on ‘Authorize’ in the next page.
5) Enter your contact information and in the ‘Yearly contributors’ area drag the pointer to the left until it shows $0 and click on ‘Continue’.
6) The next page shows a message ‘Your Akismet subscription is active’.
7) Check your mailbox for the activation mail. Open the email and click on ‘Activate Account’.
8) Now your Akismet account will get activated.
Where To Get Free Akismet API Key:
We can get free Akismet API key in two ways.
Method 1: Sign in to Akismet account and get the Akismet API key from the Account Overview field.
Method 2: Check out the Akismet account registered email. You will get a mail with subject ‘Your Akismet API key’.
Activating Akismet API key in Blog:
1) Log in to the WordPress dashboard.
2) Navigate to plugins > Installed Plugins > Akismet > Settings
3) Enter your Akismet API Key and click on Update options.

What can i say about this plug in – Akismet it just saved me lots of time. I was receiving around 20 spam comments on my blog daily and i use to delete them manually and then i got to know about Akismet and installed it and bang since then no spam comment. I a really happy.
